The Serendipity of Oncology
The first TKI we discovered was actually the best, and it predates this drug. The moment you gave the drug in Phase 1 trial, I think New England Journal 99, 2000, it was almost a 100% response rate. So yes, serendipity. Yes, that classic story of an oncologist who stuck with the problem. And also just the perfect lock and key story. But to be perfectly honest with you, John, maybe if you took the old chemotherapy drugs and made this kind of survival curve, that there would still be a gap at the end from secondary cancers and toxicities. Maybe that gap is still not fully closed. We have had some successes.
