Milner describes her own experience of self refashioning as one of sinking into her private sea. For her, the ego mostly feels like a nuisance to be outwitted so as to create an opening for the sublime experience she's after. The act of pushing her ego aside temporarily allows her to access intense frequencies of bodily experience that are impossible whenever the ego's power remains intact. So these are really great passages just to really hammer home Milner's kind of approach here.
