The Promise of God - The Scarification of the Cheek
In the Bible, circumcision is seen as a sign of god's covenant with his people. The fact that it's marked not just in the flesh, but in that particular part of the flesh, is of great religious significance. When we're friendly with god, life comes from us in all sorts of ways, right? So circumcision, i think, is literally cutting into the flesh of someone, a deep reminder of that truth. It's tied to fecundity and fertility involved in a god's covenant.
