What's the Difference Between the Peatlands in Scotland and Peru?
In Peru there are roughly three different kinds of peatland vegetation. The most widespread kind is the type that's dominated by Mauritia flexuosa palm. And then there's another kind which we think are equivalent to the raised bogues in this country. So they're waterlogged, very low in nutrients because they're entirely rain-fed. They're called pole forest - meaning trees growing on them are thin like poles.
