John Thoreau died of gangrene, lock jaw and convulsing death with Henry there holding him in his arms. This was the brother he loved, the only brother, and Henry had this amazing kind of sympathetic reaction. He did go to speak to Emerson that day, but then he came home and took to his bed for quite a while several weeks really. And what he brought him was a book by a French transnentalist which spoke to the glories of nature. That's when Thoreau began writing again in his journal began actually return to his fascination with nature.
