The Differences Between Pita Han and Non-Total Languages
The most extreme example that I know of is actually pita han which is an extremely contentious language to talk about. Within each syllable the only thing that is preserved is how long that syllable envelope is and what the tone melody inside it is. And all the other consonant information is completely eliminated. Whereas with non-total languages you generally don't get perfect representation of the consonants even in situations where there are enough available whistling distinctions for a full whistle register. They just don't they don't seem to get used that way.
