The Death Penalty for a Mass Murderer
Nicholas Cruz admitted to killing 17 people at his former high school on Valentine's Day in 2018. But the jury could not reach a unanimous decision which under Florida law is required to sentence someone to death. Many of the families of those killed were stunned and horrified by the jury's decision. The formal sentencing for Cruz will be on November 1st, though the judge does not have the authority to change the sentence.
