The Anarchist Movement in the United States

Anarchist organization s and publications frequently used violent rhetoric in their calls to overthrow capitalism. Some of them also advocated actual violence, including printing instructions for making bombs. Police officers s, pinkerton agents, detectives and others infiltrated anarchist meetings in plain clothes. Sometimes they would intentionally use more extreme language when they knew that they were being watched. The idea here was stoking fear of what their movement might do, and then trying to use that fear as leverage reach their goals.
