The Importance of Friendship
During this time, lots of my friends were settling down and having children without issue. But there was such a clear distinction between the friends who were able to be there for me and the ones who weren't. I think it coincided with a particular time in our culture where motherhood specifically was being fetishised online. It's either amazing or disastrous and the toughest thing that you'll ever do. And both of those extremes are really exclusionary for the rest of us. There are many people who don't feel that they want to talk openly about their fertility struggles. We're not going to make our grief or our loss any worse by talking to anyone but we already know that it's there.
