Sticky Notes: The Classical Music Podcast

CHAPTER

The Second Theme of a Symphony by Farank

Ferrank is writing this symphony in a time where opera was the main attraction on stages. It's clearly at least somewhat modelled on the egmont overture, makes it a dramatic work that could almost be thought of operatically. The way ferink gets there is unusual, and it's a great way to remind ourselves about sonata form. But usually what one comes back to again and again in pieces from this era is that the interesting stuff comes from when the composer moves away from the gella mould. And that's what farank does here.
