In the US it's actually pretty common in Canada to go and do a straight PhD program where you... Oh, wow. So no masters degree. It's essentially structured so that in the PhD program within the first two years you end up having to write a qualifying exam or some sort of an examination like that. And if you fail that exam, then you can actually often will be awarded a masters degree because you've completed all the coursework. But you sort of go through directly into a PhD program. That's what happens right now at U of T. About two-thirds of our incoming students go directly into the, what we call the direct entry, PhD.
