The Importance of Authenticity in the Aboriginal Art Industry
Scott: I think there's an opportunity here to actually layer our understanding of what Aboriginal art means in a contemporary sense. Quentin: The notion of authenticity comes freighted with colonial anxieties about who has the right to paint under what conditions they do so. Scott: If we see this work not as authentic in those terms but as an authentic expression of the social world which actually carries it forth, that creates it, I think they become much more instructive.
