The Interplanetary System in Star Trek
In the original series, there weren't Klingons. And so what we had was the USS Enterprise, clearly modeled on Navy. The voice over at the beginning is all about brave new worlds and going and exploring things. But yet it's pretty clear pretty quickly on that these are warships,. That they have some pretty awesome weapons and they are meant for fighting. They're in a no kidding worship that's able to blow things out of space relatively easily given the right, the right opponent.
