Introduction
Advanced English Lessons with Harry looks at other words to use instead of very. Very is what we call an intensifier, and intensifiers are usually adverbs or adverbial phrases that are used to emphasize or to strengthen the meaning of other expressions. So for example, I could say the weather, it is cold, but I want to intensify it. But if I take it up a level and say terrifying, then in that situation, I can only say really terrifying, not very terrifying.
