The Coherence of the Universe

An argument is made in about 700 by Indian texts, that there's a striking coherence across the range of phenomena that shape the universe. The response philosophically is what we call a counterfactual argument: if you didn't have some coherence that keeps things going then chaos would ensue. So maybe the issue is more whether that unity of character that unfolds in laws and in the different materials we have is striking or not. Is it significant or does it really matter? And some of that's about whether it could have been otherwise.
