The Ethics of Syphilis

The Tuskegee Experiment was a study in nature of how syphilis spreads. The US Public Health Service deliberately told local hospitals not to tell these men that they weren't being treated. This went on even after the discovery of penicillin, which is a guaranteed cure. These deaths occurred because the researchers thought scientific data was more important than those men's lives.
