The problem is the incentives are lined up for anyone who has any type of audience to chill KYC services because they pay the best. And Bitcoin, it's like counterculture. It's a fuck you to the state. But if we allow it to get co-opted, or at least not be clear about the trade-offs, I think there's a lot of that. The chance that this happen is, but it's not zero.
