I think, for lewis, really, desire brings us to a door. And the door itself doesn't bring satisfaction. It's what lies through it that changes and transforms your life. If we get lost in the distractions of secondary things, we lose ourselves in the process. We lose the joy that those things can bring us when they're in their proper place.
