The King of the Tone Poem

After World War I and the introduction of A-tonality, the tone poem markedly declined in popularity. The Isle of the Dead allowed Rachmanonoff to also express his personality and music. It's a piece for an orchestra of three flutes, three oboes, three clarinets, three bassoons, six French horns, three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani, percussion, harp and strings.
