There's a sizable minority of Ukrainians who are Russian speaking and regard themselves or have historically regarded themselves as closely tied to Russia. Many people in the anti-Maidan movement at that time, they said, okay, this is enough. And this led to an uprising in the Donbas. Some people say, oh, that uprising was engineered by Russian agents. I don't think that's true,. It was a genuine movement that had roots in a reaction against the Maidan overthrow. In any case, the response of the Ukrainian state was to send the army against the rebels in the Donets.
