The Early Robinhoods

The two earliest ballads were apparently written down sometime in the 1450s or 1460s. A larger third poem, a Jester-Robinhood, was apparently written a short time later. Robinhood's band of merry men are there from the beginning, and some were added later. It isn't clear how or why Robin became an outlaw in these early ballads.
