What Is the Malayan Emergency?
Jian Chiyin is a Singaporean visual artist who has been researching the Malayan emergency. The war was fought between 1940 and 1960 by local leftist guerrilla fighters against the British. It's more commonly known as the anti-British war, but they would acknowledge the term emergency. In 1953 labor MPs were in the House of Commons asking how many states of emergencies are there currently in the Empire.
