Blockbuster - The Last Nail in the Coffin

In 2004, Blockbuster killed the late fees business and embraced the internet. In 2006, it launched a scheme that would allow an online subscriber to go to a Blockbuster store and exchange the DVD for free. Wall Street billionaire Carl Icahn said that going online was a fool's errand. He wanted Blockbuster to bring back the lucrative late fees. It didn't work. The more nuanced reading of this is that it wasn't Netflix that killed Blockbuster. It was massive amounts of debt and the quest for super-fast growth. Maybe Netflix should make a docu-series about this, right?
