The Commandments of the Decalogue Concerning Love of Neighbor
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells a young man what he must do in life to show that he acknowledges God's holiness. After directing the young man's gaze towards God, Jesus reminds him of the commandments of the Decalogue regarding one's neighbor. In this commandment, we find a precise expression of the singular dignity of the human person,. The only creature that God has wanted for its own sake. These negative precepts express with particular force the ever urgent need to protect human life and people's good name.
