Is There Something Different About World War I?
The horror of war is accepted throughout Europe. But I wonder whether there is something different in the folkloric psyche of World War I. Being uncomfortable doesn't mean that you're questioning the right for someone to defend themselves. The UK or the US, they were defending themselves in both World Wars. In the second one, liberating Europe from Nazi terror, they were forced into a war and they were victorious. To make a war film or write a war story as a hero's journey, I think is impossible. And if you haven't seen the film already, it really is worth watching. It is quite the experience.
