Using Next Token Prediction to Create Artificial Enzymes

Scientists have developed an AI system called Progen, which is capable of creating artificial enzymes from scratch by using next token prediction to assemble amino acid sequences. The new technology will speed up the development of new proteins that can be used for almost anything from therapeutics to degrading plastics. While with proteins, the design choices were almost limitless and the model can easily generate working enzymes, which opens up a new era of protein design.
