How Do You Use Picture Books and Visual Art Together?

As a young, formative artist, i came in contact with some picture books that seemed to be the most successful example of a combination of prose or poetry and visual art. The first book that i saw that really made me think of that was outside over there by mory sendack,. I don't know why i love it. And then ih've spent my whole life thinking about them and reading them and wondering why i love them so much.
