Our relationship with god is meant to be such that he tolerates no rivals to his place in our heart. We sometimes slip into this, and we end up giving our lives for things that are not worthy of your life. And because of that, our lives then end up becoming useless. That's what the message of chapter 15 is, the useless vine.
