The Disparities in Lupus
Lupus is a disease that disproportionately affects young women, and many of the manifestations are not outwardly physical. Go to the ER, U.A. keeps coming back as a quote unquote dirty U.A., when in reality it's Lupus. So we know that there's a massive delay in care because it's underrecognized. And then if you add like insurance status, you add language, you add health literacy, it becomes, yes, it's an onion. It can be incredibly overwhelming to try to peel back the layers.
