The Politics of Economic Modernisation

Melin government began the first incomes policy. It was volunteering, unlike some of the ones that came later. But this, let's call it the politics of economic modernisation with an incomes policy being a central part of that. That really runs through the 60s, all the way through to Thatcher in 1979. When she gets rid of it? Absolutely. And I think that we can understand her getting rid of it as part of this story,. because of labour's relationship with the trade unions than it is for the Conservatives.
