Parallel Streams of Ideas Are Really Important

Ross Akoff coined the term mess or a situation that's kind of intractable, and which is where the boundaries are very kind of fuzzy. Donald Schoen was talking about the swamp, the swampy lowlands in which practice occurs. And so that sense of multiple different ways of approaching this idea of flocks, of instability, of constant change, of lack of stable boundaries, these kind of things. I think that's something that in a sense these are metaphors and they're attempts to kind of get through to a deeper reality. But I guess the fact that there are several parallel ideas at the same time is often really important.
