The Importance of Eneus in Ukrainian Culture

Eneus in many ways repeats the story of Odysseus, but actually it's more successful because he comes from those who were defeated. Troy was burned down by the Mongols, and then it transferred itself to a new Rome, which is Moscow etc. Whereas the Eneus myth is much more important for Ukrainians from Kotlarevsky onwards than for Russians. And why Russians didn't take it? precisely because they did not want to present this part of Ukrainian culture as competing story; they wanted just to erase it.
