The History of Dutch Politics

The Netherlands was a liberal democratic place only by comparison to the rest of 18th century Europe. Dutch politics were inclusive for the time, but the majority of the population could not participate. The relatively open, affluent nature of Dutch society meant that the enlightenment had a big impact there. By the late 18th century, there was a large, active faction advocating for radical reforms.
