The Real Thing Is Ignored
There's this theme throughout the book of the images that we create in our mind versus the real thing itself. In fact, a friend of mine who recently lost her husband was combating on the brilliance of one of Lewis's statements in a grief observed. He said he didn't want them mentioning the loss of his loved one, but then he was also hurt if they didn't mention it. So you feel both sides that you are so tired of receiving this mournful sorrow from your friends.
