David Frum: Our brains connect the dots of our world into meaningful patterns that explain why things happen. He says we look for confirmatory evidence in support of our beliefs. We're more likely to describe someone as extroverted if they fit those traits, he says. If you tell another subject that this same person is introverted, they'll describe them as introverted. It's a very, very powerful effect and can't really be broken easily by people who don't know what their own minds are telling them.
