i think we have been very programmed to think that the past, as louis wood said, the conditioners have been successful in convincing all of us that the past was an oppressive time. And so when we hear calls, i even see this in my own work, when i talk about the tradition of understanding literature, there's almost a gut reaction against that. When my students actually go through the process with me, they realize as quite the opposite, that they have been handed the keys to the kingdom. They have been liberated by being re introduced to the past and what was lost.
