The Burj Khalifa and the Buttress Core
The Burj Khalifa was built using a buttress core. A hexagonal core is constructed with like three Y-shaped feet coming off it. This allows the skyscraper to go up to these ridiculous mega tall heights. The engineer who worked on this said they basically approached it by breaking it down into several 20 to 30 story buildings stacked on top of each other.
