The Challenges of Hypersonic Flight
The new problem in hypersonics is how do I stay in the atmosphere at these high speeds? Right? And that becomes the real technological problem inhypersonic flight. The most efficient way still to get hypersonic speeds is with a rocket engine. But if I want to maintain that speed, I'm going to need some sort of propulsion unit besides the rocket and that's where we get into concepts like air breathing engines.
