Catfishing and Cyberstocking
The term catfishing doesn't appear in any federal laws. Cyberstocking, however, has become the most common crime committed by catfish. Women are more usually the catfish in this situation worldwide and men are more likely to fall for the scam. In the year 2017 alone, 15,372 people reported catfishing to the authorities. The conclusion I make after studying catfishing for about a week is that because it is still such a new phenomenon, the broader world doesn't understand how to handle catfish or their victims yet.
