Political Illustrations of the French Revolution of the 17 Eighties

Lideracy rates in french cities were relatively high in the 17 eighties, at least at a basic level. Roughly two thirds of the salaried workers in paris could read at a rudimentary level. As a result of poore litracy rates, political illustrations became prominent. In these drawings you can see without a shadow of a doubt the tensions bubbling away between the third estate and the two privileged orders. These depictions may have differed in form, but the message was the same. The third estate was the nation. The two privileged orders were not.
