It used to be possible, and i don't know if it still isbut, but maybe, ah, when you knew that there was an award devaluation coming. So the frustrating thing for me with american has been that it's most awards i've tried to change on line. Anything involving a partner airline lit's to qualify with, that can't changed on line. And it just gives you a message telling you that you should just cancel and re book because the miles will be re deposited.
