The Professional Managerial Class in Cultural Institutions

The idea that an audience would not be intelligent enough to make up their own minds is very much a managerial decision. I'm interested in the theory of the professional managerial class as it relates to cultural institutions. The contemporary PMC is a strata of salaried workers who do not own the means of production like the capitalist, but nevertheless manages other workers and enjoys the prestige of credentialism, expertise, and technocracy. And there are many reasons for this: Finance capital gets more complicated and needs more managers and engineers to control the flows of labor and knowledge.
