Is There a Place for Self Denial?

Happiness in older times didn't mean you pursue happiness by any and every means. Lewis, even in mere Christianity, warns against taking one impulse of your nature as the thing to follow at all costs. He says it will make us into devils if we set it up as an absolute guide. What do you think we are to do practically as Christians in an increasingly unchristian world?
