Lafayette's Grand Tour

Fanny and Camilla would travel to the United States separately and only join Lafayette after he made his initial grand entrance. After four easy weeks at sea, Lafayette and the party arrived in New York on August 15, 1824. A welcome committee thrust him into the center of a huge parade traveling up Broadway from the shore to City Hall. When Lafayette arrived at City Hall, he was greeted by a giant banner welcoming The Nation's Guest.
