The Dissonance of Mindfulness in the Face of Growing Inequalities

In South Africa, triple oppression is of course at the root of Kimberle Crenshaw's conceptualization of intersectionality. So when I entered the world of mindfulness, I probably might be fully fully assumed that this would be a practice that is about social liberation. And so I emphasize very much this orientation of being a black feminist scholar practitioner using drawing on Patricia Hill Collins' concept as well of being an outsider within. It was always evident what the nature of these spaces were, this white middle class nature of these mindfulness spaces. Many authors and people engaged in mindfulness were becoming increasingly critical of the commercialized nature of what fast became a mindfulness industry.
