Rehoboam's Counsel to the People
Rehoboam reigned over the sons of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah. The people said to him, Your father made our yoke heavy, but please, lighten it for us. So Rehoboam answered them harshly: "My little finger is thicker than my father's loins" And when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, they asked What portion have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse," he replied.
