The Maseretic or the Septuagent?

In jewish communities, the hebrew text has always been central. Passages from balloc and silach are even included in the weekly readings the lectionaries. Orthodox christians argue that the septuagent preserves the oldest and most reliable tradition until the dead sea scrulls are found. They get quite ted about it from some of the websites i've read.
