I Think Bolling's Desire to Be at the Center of the Art World Is Kind of on Top of That
Bolling arrived from a britain that's absolutely obsessed with its form of pop art and he arrives in the state where pop art is obviously dominant too but also forms of abstraction of domino. It seems to me there's an enormous amount of wrestling that goes on in the work as to how much he foregrounds one thing or another in the period leading up to this work very much so. i think this is really bolling understanding extremely well and he did go to new york prior to his relocation and choosing new york as his primary place of residence so he did know the place beforehand.
