A number of stats were removed from the WordPress dot org repo, which gave some information about how their plugin was being installed over time. I think what we're seeing is that there's a pattern that has happened at least several times this year. People are feeling ignored without any real reasoning behind it because no one is really saying much about why they've done it. Any hint of cracks or fishes in that community, alarming and worry me greatly.
