California's Budget Crisis
The dotcom bubble burst, and many of the companies that were fueling the state's rapid growth collapsed. California went from having about a two and a half billion dollars surplus in two thousand one down to a 38 billion dollar deficit only two years er. As the deficit grew, governor davis knew he had to start bringing in tax revenue to balance out the recession. The car tax is a huge issue out here.
